What is our purpose?
To help you to unpack some of the stuff you carry around. I imagine a big, old rucksack that has maybe got really heavy - it might be causing you to not live your best life. I will help you unpack it when you are ready to do so, then we can examine the contents together. There may be stuff in there you want to keep, stuff you don't want anymore - we will only really know when we examine it. When we know what is causing you joy, pain, sadness, fear, and anger... you can choose what you want to keep, and what you don't.
You decide what to keep carrying, and what to discard.
What are our values & principles?
Empathy - I will meet you where you are, not where I think you are, or you think you should be. You know your world better than I do, and I will seek to join you in it.
Acceptance - I will be open-minded, valuing your uniqueness and individuality.
Safety - Counselling may not always feel comfortable, it may sometimes feel really challenging. However, I assure you that you can share your thoughts, experiences and emotions with me, without fear of judgement.
Integrity - My work is guided by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy's Ethical Framework. I have my clients' best interests at the core of what I do. I am personally accountable, responsible, reflective, self-aware and truthful in how I work with clients.
A phrase often used is "a safe pair of hands" - someone who can be relied upon and consistent, no matter what.
"Not until we are lost do we find ourselves."
Henry David Thoreau
